The bill, passed on February 26 by the Assam Assembly, aims to clamp down on unscientific healing practices prevalent in the state.

Sarma warned that Ajmal’s involvement in what the bill defines as “magical healing” could result in his arrest. He stressed that his words reflect the collective will of the Assembly rather than personal opinion. The bill prohibits individuals from engaging in practices falsely claiming to cure diseases or health issues.

Presented by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika on behalf of Sarma’s administration, the bill seeks to promote social awareness on health matters and eliminate harmful practices rooted in ignorance. It aims to protect citizens from misleading claims and ensure the provision of evidence-based healthcare.
