Israeli Airstrikes Target Iranian Consulate in Damascus, Resulting in Casualties


Israeli airstrikes targeted the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital, leading to the loss of seven lives, including a high-ranking Revolutionary Guards commander.According to Syria’s state news agency SANA, the attack, attributed to Israel, occurred in the Mezzeh neighborhood of Damascus on Monday afternoon.

SANA reported, citing a military source, that the airstrikes commenced around 00:17 p.m. from the direction of the occupied Syrian Golan, aiming at the Iranian consulate building. Syrian air defenses intercepted some of the incoming missiles but couldn’t prevent the destruction of the entire structure, resulting in casualties.

The assault also caused significant damage to nearby buildings, as confirmed by the Iranian Ambassador to Damascus, Hossein Akbari. Akbari stated that six missiles struck the consulate, resulting in the deaths of five to seven individuals, including Iranian advisers and two police officers.Expressing condemnation and vowing a robust response, Akbari emphasized that Iran will stand in solidarity with Palestine and hold the Israeli regime accountable for its actions.

Among the casualties were Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a commander of Iran’s Quds Force, and his deputy, Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi. In response to the attack, Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad visited the Iranian Embassy, reaffirming the resilience of the bilateral relations between Iran and Syria.

Mekdad condemned the Israeli aggression, asserting that it would not affect the strong ties between the two nations.”
