Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has announced his plans to visit the Siachen Glacier, renowned as the world’s highest battlefield, on March 24 to celebrate the festival of colours, Holi, with the armed forces personnel stationed there.
The festival, marking the triumph of good over evil and the arrival of spring, will be observed from March 24 to 25 this year. Singh’s decision to spend Holi with the soldiers at such a challenging and significant location underscores the government’s commitment to honoring and supporting the armed forces.
In a statement, Singh expressed his anticipation for the visit, emphasizing the importance of celebrating Holi amidst the adversities faced by soldiers in the region. Siachen presents extreme weather conditions, including frostbite, high winds, avalanches, and temperatures plummeting as low as minus 60 degrees Celsius. Despite these formidable challenges, the soldiers stationed there remain steadfast in their duty to safeguard the nation’s borders.
“Today, 24th March, I shall be in Siachen, the world’s highest battlefield. I am looking forward to celebrating Holi with the Armed Forces personnel deployed there,” Singh shared on X.(KNS), expressing his eagerness to join the soldiers in their festivities.
The Defence Minister’s visit serves as a gesture of solidarity and appreciation for the sacrifices made by the armed forces in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, particularly in such inhospitable terrains. It also underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the welfare and morale of the soldiers serving in challenging environments.
As the nation celebrates the festival of colours, Singh’s presence at Siachen Glacier not only boosts the morale of the troops but also sends a powerful message of gratitude and respect to all members of the armed forces, who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation’s borders and preserving its security.
