Saints Storm: Siena Women’s Lacrosse Shatters Records in Dominant Win Over Rider

Amidst the tempestuous weather, Siena’s women’s lacrosse squad orchestrated a spectacle of dominance at Hickey Field this past Saturday. Undeterred by rain or the challenge of MAAC newcomer Rider, they orchestrated a masterclass, trouncing their opponents 22-4 and etching their names into the program’s storied history.

With unwavering determination, the Saints shattered records, eclipsing their previous largest margin of victory by an astonishing 18 goals. Sarah Irish’s decisive goal in the waning moments sealed their triumph, marking a new era of success. This monumental victory also matched their program record for most goals scored in a single game, a feat achieved previously against Hartford in 2019.

Siena (6-3, 1-0 MAAC) showcased their dominance across all facets of the game, commanding the field with an iron grip on draw controls, claiming 26 out of 30 opportunities as a unit. Senior Taryn Asselin reached new heights, clinching a single-game program record with an impressive 15 draw controls, a milestone she had been tirelessly pursuing throughout the season.

Despite being in their inaugural women’s lacrosse season, the Broncs (6-3, 0-1) had displayed promise, featuring the MAAC’s top player for draw controls and a formidable scorer in Katie Walsh. However, Walsh was stifled by the Saints’ formidable defense, managing just two draw controls and one goal.

On the offensive front, junior Grace Dobrzynski spearheaded the onslaught with an exceptional eight-point performance, while junior Kelly Logue reached a career milestone, surpassing 100 career points with a six-point contribution. The Saints surged ahead from the onset, establishing a commanding 7-1 lead in the first quarter.

Maintaining their momentum, Siena continued their relentless assault, extending their lead to 13-3 by halftime. A testament to their depth, 12 different players contributed to the scoreboard. Defensively, graduate student Jenna Colabufo led the charge with four caused turnovers, further solidifying her impressive career legacy.

Rider, accustomed to prolific scoring, found themselves stifled by Siena’s formidable defense, managing just nine shots, with only six on target. The Saints’ victory marked their fourth consecutive win and their fifth in the last six games, all with their opponents held to single-digit scores.

In a display of sheer dominance, the Siena women’s lacrosse team left an indelible mark on the field, rewriting records and cementing their status as a formidable force in the MAAC, destined for even greater heights.
