Nicole Kidman Opens Up About Emotional Toll of “Big Little Lies” Role and Unusual On-Set Incident

Dark roles can take a significant emotional toll on actors, and Nicole Kidman experienced this firsthand while playing Celeste Wright on “Big Little Lies.”

In an interview during The Hollywood Reporter’s roundtable, the Oscar winner recounted a moment of pent-up frustration after filming the HBO show, which led her to throw a rock at a door.”I threw a rock because [the door] was locked, and I couldn’t get in,” she explained. “I’d never done that in my life.”

She noted, “I obviously had a lot of pent-up energy. I broke the whole thing. It cost a fortune,” she added with a laugh.Nicole shared that she later told the unusual story to her co-star Alexander Skarsgård and director Jean-Marc Vallée.”The next day, I told Alexander and Jean-Marc, ‘I threw a rock through the window,’ and they were like, ‘Whoa …’ I said, ‘I was kind of pissed off,'” she recalled.

“But in this industry, the show must go on, so you just keep going. You show up and do it over and over,” Nicole explained. “Often, it’s six months of 12- to 14-hour days, and there’s really no time to think, ‘I need to take care of myself.'”
