The Hypocrisy of the West: Prioritising Alcohol Over Syria’s Tragedy

The Western countries and their journalists, elites, and leaders are so cruel and brazen in their actions that they don’t even care about what the world will say about them.

Over the past decade, Syria has been utterly devastated. Entire cities were levelled to the ground. Hospitals and schools were not spared from their airstrikes. Innocent children were killed, seven million people were displaced, and reports indicate that one million lives were lost.

Now, when the Syrian people have managed to oust a cowardly dictator and liberate their country, their primary goal is to rebuild their shattered nation. They need to console the families whose loved ones were taken by the brutal regime and will never return. They must support mothers whose sons have been laid to rest forever and care for children who have lost their parents.

At this critical moment, the entire world, including Syria’s current government, should focus on one thing: how to rebuild this devastated country. It is the global community’s responsibility, especially those who sided with the ruthless Western governments and contributed to Syria’s destruction, to help with this reconstruction.

Ideally, the pressing questions posed to Syria’s leaders should have been:

  • How will you rebuild this broken nation?
  • What resources do you have to undertake this massive task?
  • How will you help the displaced families?
  • What is your plan to restore the ruined infrastructure and rebuild the cities?

Instead, these shameless and heartless people are obsessively asking irrelevant questions, such as:

  • What will happen to girls’ education?
  • What about women’s rights?
  • Will those who wish to drink alcohol face restrictions?

When a BBC reporter asked, “What about alcohol?” it genuinely made me furious. If that person had been in front of me, I would have taken off my shoe and asked, “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself? Are you really more concerned about alcohol and drinkers than the millions of shattered homes caused by your actions?”

These people are so desensitised, so utterly lacking in conscience, that they don’t even care about the mass graves being discovered. They’re not asking how many bodies the Assad regime buried or how many lives were lost. No, they’re more concerned about liquor bottles than human lives.

These are truly shameless and immoral individuals. They have no sense of decency, and after committing such atrocities, they still preach about humanity and morality without the slightest embarrassment at their hypocrisy.
