Breaking News: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Resigned

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned from her position and left Bangladesh following a fresh wave of violent clashes between protesters and supporters of the ruling Awami League. Reports indicate that she vacated her office and departed the country on Monday, as the unrest escalated, resulting in multiple deaths. This marks one of the most severe episodes of violence in Bangladesh since its independence over fifty years ago.

The violence intensified on Sunday morning when protesters, gathered under the banner of Students Against Discrimination, launched a non-cooperation movement with the single demand of Hasina’s resignation. The movement was sparked by widespread discontent over a controversial job quota system that many see as unfair. However, the protests were met with fierce resistance from supporters of the ruling Awami League, including activists from the Chhatra League and Jubo League.

As the situation worsened, protesters reportedly stormed the prime minister’s residence in Dhaka, prompting her to flee to a safer location. Local media sources confirmed that Hasina left the capital amidst the chaos, with officials noting that the situation had become too dangerous to remain.

The clashes, which began as a student-led movement, have now spiralled into a broader anti-government uprising, with demands for Hasina’s resignation at its core. The violence and unrest have raised concerns about the stability of Bangladesh, as the nation faces one of its most challenging political crises in recent history.

This dramatic turn of events has left the country in a state of uncertainty, with questions about the future leadership and the potential for further violence as the situation continues to unfold.

Some students from various educational institutions gathered at Dhaka Central Shaheed Minar before and after 10 am to participate in the ‘March to Dhaka’ programme, prompting the police to fire tear gas shells to disperse them.
