Menaka Irani, the beloved mother of filmmakers Farah Khan and Sajid Khan, passed away on Friday at the age of 79. Her death follows a recent Instagram post by Farah Khan, in which she revealed that Menaka had undergone multiple surgeries in recent weeks.
Menaka Irani, who was also the sister of former actors Honey Irani and Daisy Irani, died at her son Sajid Khan’s home in suburban Mumbai after a prolonged illness, according to a close family source.
In the wake of her passing, several celebrities visited Farah’s residence to pay their respects. Among those who came to offer their condolences were Salim Khan, Rani Mukerji, Sanjay Kapoor, Maniesh Paul, Fardeen Khan, Vikram Phadnis, Shoaib Ibrahim, and Shiv Thakare. T-Series head Bhushan Kumar also paid his respects to the late actress.
Menaka Irani’s 79th birthday was celebrated just two weeks ago, on July 12. On that occasion, her children shared heartfelt social media posts. Farah Khan, who had recently brought her mother home from the hospital after several operations, wrote a touching tribute, expressing her deep love and admiration for Menaka, describing her as the “strongest” and “bravest” person she has ever known, with her humor intact despite her health struggles. Farah’s post also included a hopeful note about looking forward to her mother’s recovery.
Sajid Khan also marked the occasion with a tribute, sharing a photo of his mother and Farah on social media, wishing her a “Happy Birthday.”
