Israeli Airstrikes Kill 125 in Gaza, Northern Hospitals Collapse Amid Escalating Conflict
Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip killed at least 125 Palestinians, including women and children, overnight and into Sunday, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The intensified attacks have crippled healthcare infrastructure, rendering all public hospitals in northern Gaza, including the Indonesian Hospital, out of service. The strikes come as ceasefire talks in Qatar falter and Israel prepares for a new ground offensive.
The deadliest strike targeted the al-Mawasi camp, a designated “safe zone” for displaced Palestinians, killing 36 people sheltering in tents, local officials reported. Airstrikes also hit Deir al-Balah, killing 14, and other areas, overwhelming remaining medical facilities. Hospital hallways are flooded with the injured, with medics struggling to treat critical cases amid shortages of supplies and power.
“Israel is systematically targeting hospitals,” a Gaza Health Ministry spokesperson said, echoing sentiments from health professionals. The World Health Organization noted that Gaza now has only 21 functional hospitals for 2 million people, with specialized services like neurosurgery nearly nonexistent. Posts on X reflect outrage, with users reporting the destruction of key facilities and blocked humanitarian aid.
Israel’s military stated the strikes targeted “terror operatives” planting explosives, but provided no evidence. The attacks follow Prime Minister Netanyahu’s vow to escalate operations, raising fears of further civilian casualties. The international community, including the UN, has raised concerns over the deteriorating human rights situation in Gaza.
As the conflict intensifies, the collapse of northern Gaza’s hospitals leaves thousands without care, exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis.
