Attorneys representing Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny disclosed on Monday that they have been unable to establish contact with him, heightening concerns about his location. Efforts by Navalny’s legal team to gain access to the penal colonies, where he was believed to be held, have been unsuccessful. According to spokesperson Kira Yarmysh, inquiries to both the IK-6 and IK-7 penal colonies yielded no information about Navalny’s whereabouts. The 47-year-old activist has been missing for six days, raising alarms among his supporters.
The White House expressed deep concern over Navalny’s disappearance, emphasizing the need for his immediate release. John Kirby, a spokesperson for the US National Security Council, stated that efforts would be made through the embassy in Moscow to gather more information.

Alexey Navalny gained international attention when he was poisoned with Novichok in 2020, leading to his transfer to Germany for treatment. Investigations implicated the Russian Security Service (FSB) in the poisoning, and Navalny continued his activism upon his return to Russia in 2021.
