Breaking News: Attorney Reports Continued Sexual Harassment and Abuse of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui in Texas Jail

Clive Stafford Smith, the American lawyer representing Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, has reported ongoing sexual harassment of his client at a Fort Worth, Texas jail. He revealed that a security guard raped her two weeks ago as a form of punishment.

Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani neuroscientist, was charged in September 2008 by a New York federal district court with attempted murder and assault, related to an incident during an interview with US authorities in Ghazni, Afghanistan. She denied the charges. After 18 months in detention, she was convicted in early 2010 and sentenced to 86 years in prison, where she remains in the US.

Stafford Smith, in a phone conversation with Geo News following his visit with Dr. Aafia, disclosed, “The sexual abuse of Dr. Aafia has not ceased. She is consistently subjected to physical harassment.”

He detailed that during his visit on Thursday and Friday, he spoke with Dr. Aafia through a glass partition, but due to a malfunctioning phone, they had to shout to communicate. After complaining to the jail authorities, a functional phone was provided two days later.

The lawyer also recounted an incident involving Dr. Aafia’s sister, Dr. Fowzia, who visited her on Sunday. Dr. Aafia was in tears and was taken away by prison authorities, while Dr. Fowzia was left locked in another room for an hour and a half, seemingly forgotten by the jail officials.

Regarding the case, Clive Stafford Smith expressed optimism about Dr. Aafia’s release. “I am currently in New York and will travel to Washington tomorrow to meet with individuals who will brief the White House on the case,” he said. Although he did not disclose the names of the officials he would meet, he mentioned significant progress and a positive direction in the case.
